The Society for Medieval and Renaissance Philosophy (SMRP) supports publications in all areas of Medieval and Renaissance philosophy, including Christian, Arabic, and Jewish philosophy as well as secular philosophy. Special effort will be made to draw the attention of junior scholars to this opportunity, but any scholar or organization (although preference may be given to member projects) may apply. With this fund, the Society wishes to promote and to support the publication and dissemination of works of the highest quality in the field of Medieval and Renaissance philosophy, including but not limited to monographs, edited texts, primary sources, scholarly translations, digital resources and the like. Unrevised dissertations and collections of unrelated papers by several authors will not be considered.
Consideration will be given to work falling within the area of Medieval and Renaissance philosophy. The work in question must, in the case of a book subvention, have been submitted to a reputable press, received positive reports from professional referees and been accepted as a manuscript worthy of publication. In all other cases a full proposal must be submitted and additional supporting material may be requested. An application may be made at any time and should be submitted to the SMRP Publication Chair for consideration. The Publications Committee will enlist its evaluators from the SMRP membership. Appropriate formal acknowledgment of the SMRP’s subvention must appear in the publication.
Decisions will be based on three criteria: 1) the quality of the material, 2) the demonstrated need for financial assistance, 3) availability of SMRP funds. The Executive Committee will make the final determination. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
